Anguilla is a small British Overseas Territory located in the eastern Caribbean Sea, east of Puerto Rico and north of Saint Martin. The island is known for its white sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters, and coral reefs. It has a relatively flat terrain and a warm tropical climate, making tourism the primary driver of its economy. Although Anguilla has internal self-governance, the United Kingdom remains responsible for its defense and foreign affairs.
Historically, Anguilla was colonized by the British in the 17th century and later became part of the associated state of Saint Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla. After political tensions, Anguilla separated in 1980 and became a separate British Overseas Territory. Today, in addition to tourism, offshore financial services contribute to its economy. Despite its small population, Anguilla maintains a strong cultural identity rooted in Caribbean traditions and a close relationship with the United Kingdom.
